Today, April 28th, 2008, is the benchmark for 5 years of the iTunes store being in existence. When iTunes opened, they had a measley 200,000 songs to choose from. Now, the number is an impressive 10 million and growing.

iTunes has been the pioneer in legal online music downloads. When it first opened in 2003, Steve Jobs said,

"The iTunes Music Store offers the revolutionary rights to burn an unlimited number of CDs for personal use and to put music on an unlimited number of iPods for on-the-go listening. Consumers don't want to be treated like criminals and artists don't want their valuable work stolen. The iTunes Music Store offers a groundbreaking solution for both."

Here's to many more, iTunes!

The Financial Times reported earlier today that Apple is apparently in talks over letting users have unlimited access to iTunes. The only catch is that you would pay more upfront for the unlimited iTunes package for iPod Touch and iPhone. There would also be a monthly service fee for iPhone as another option.

The best part about this is that you can kiss $1.99 iTunes goodbye (unless if you prefer that option). Hopefully they will come out with unlimited movies soon for all of you movie buffs out there. Things are always changing over at Apple, so it wouldn't surprise me if unlimited movies came soon after this.

What do you think? Would you pay more upfront for unlimited music downloads or would you prefer to pay a monthly fee?
