PayPal has shown some concern over Apple's Safari browser due to lack of anti-phishing features. The Chief Information Security Officer of PayPal said,

"Apple unfortunately, is lagging behind what they need to do, to protect their customers. Our recommendation at this point, to our customers, is use Internet Explorer 7 or 8 when it comes out, or Firefox 2 or Firefox 3, or indeed Opera."

The two main reasons why PayPal is anti-Safari are:

1) There is no built-in filter to warn users of phishing possibilities.

2) Safari is lacking support for Extended Validation (EV) certificates.

What EV does is to turn the URL green to let you know you are surfing a "safe" website. PayPal themselves have used EV for over a year and IE 7 also uses it.

Apple claims that the majority of internet users don't even realize that a site is using EV certificates unless if they are trained in what to look for. PayPal begs to differ, stating that the number of people that leave their site has lessened since installing EV certificates.
